Located in Palm Beach County, Florida, the innovative new academy will open its doors to fledgling film students beginning January 2, 2005.

The first of its kind, “The Krane Academy of Motion Pictures” was created under the visionary eye of Jonathan Krane to educate up and coming filmmakers on the business of filmmaking as well as the actual methods involved in the filmmaking process, all from an insider’s point of view.

Taught by entertainment industry professionals, students will not only learn - but live - what it takes to be a successful producer. The unique hands-on curriculum allows students to understand the full role of the producer, from the inception to fruition of a film project including everything from development, packaging, financing, production and distribution. Each student of the Academy will graduate with a full producer credit on a viable feature film that will be produced by the Academy and then marketed to a major studio or independent distribution company. Additionally, alumni will be entitled to be managed by Krane who has managed over 150 actors, writers and directors over his 25-year career in Hollywood.

The 20 month certificate program is based on Krane’s ground-breaking new textbook “A Revolutionary Approach to the Art and Science of Moviemaking: A Treatise of Fixing the Accidental Industry” in which he purports that the motion picture industry is the only century-old, multi-billion dollar unregulated industry in the world, and is accidental because it has no articulated, published or agreed-upon processes, activities, forces, powers, job functions, rites of passage or definitions of commonly used words. He also believes that the same lack of regulation is the cause of most of the financial and other issues confronting the movie industry today.

“Palm Beach County is the ideal location for the Krane Academy and feature film production,” said Krane, an award-winner from the first Palm Beach International Film Festival. “The diverse city offers everything a producer could want and has long been utilized as a sort of “back lot” for Hollywood.

Palm Beach is known for providing talented crews and a very hospitable environment for the entertainment industry. The Krane Academy will become a source of talented producers that will help the Florida film industry and stay in this community.”

In addition to establishing the Academy in Palm Beach County, Krane is working with the Palm Beach County Film Commission and The Palm Beach International Film Festival to raise the profile and recognition of southern Florida as a viable option for feature film productions.

"I have had the privilege of knowing Jonathan Krane for over 10 years. In that period I've watched him direct, produce, and teach. He is one of the most compassionate and generous film professionals I have ever met. It is an honor to welcome Jonathan Krane and his Film Academy to Palm Beach County,” said Chuck Elderd, Film Commissioner for the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission.
