Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB via PRWebDirect) February 19, 2008 -- HTP, Inc. announced today the release of HTP Charity Compliance Manager(SM), an automated software solution that helps tax-exempt hospitals comply with the new IRS Form 990 through accurate classification and reporting of community benefit.

The new IRS Form 990 Schedule H requires not-for-profit hospitals to clearly report charity care, un-reimbursed costs from financial assistance programs and bad debt. Uncompensated care can no longer be reported as charity without documented justification.
Charity Compliance Manager eliminates subjectivity regarding whether a patient is eligible for charity care, and ensures the consistent and uniform application of hospital charity care policy to all patients. Bolstered by deep third-party data networks, the software allows hospitals to accurately assess and identify a patient’s eligibility for charity care up-front, even in the absence of supporting patient income documentation (such as W2 forms). The system can also be used to analyze bad debt accounts and retroactively classify them as charity where appropriate. Ongoing operational reports provide the documentation and justification required by the new IRS Form 990.
“The ability to properly classify patients as charity-eligible early in the revenue cycle is essential for a viable community benefit program,” said HTP President and CEO Ray Shealy. “HTP helps hospitals ensure that those patients who need charity or financial assistance receive it, those who can pay do, and that such distinctions are made objectively.”
In addition to helping hospitals classify patients via an automated Charity Predictor Score(SM), Medicaid Predictor Score(SM) and Propensity-to-Pay Score(SM), Charity Compliance Manager also includes tools for implementing a complete hospital charity program. A built-in financial aid and charity triage interview allows hospital staff to further screen patients for charity, Medicaid or other financial aid programs if the initial automated charity scoring is inconclusive. The system also provides online financial aid and charity enrollment forms and tracks each application from start through processing and final disposition.
Charity Compliance Manager is part of HTP RevRunner®, a comprehensive software suite that enables hospitals to simplify and enhance management of the revenue cycle. With HTP RevRunner, hospital staff can accurately estimate a patient’s bill, determine propensity-to-pay, identify payment options and collect payment all prior to or at time of service. And due to its unparalleled insurance eligibility verification capabilities, HTP RevRunner also maximizes a hospital’s opportunities to receive third-party reimbursement, even for patient accounts that were previously thought to be self-pay.
All RevRunner modules, including Charity Compliance Manager, work with a hospital’s existing technology investments, using their current staff and requiring nominal IT support and training.
