Ottawa, Canada and London, UK (PRWEB via PRWebDirect) April 21, 2008 -- Third Brigade ((IDS/IPS), today announced that Third Brigade® Deep Security, its software solution, has achieved Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 3 augmented (EAL 3+) certification. Third Brigade Deep Security is the first host intrusion prevention system (HIPS) to achieve the augmented level EAL 3+, and it has achieved certification across more platforms than any other host-based intrusion prevention product.

Common Criteria is an internationally-accepted and standards-based criterion for IT security evaluation. Recognized in 25 countries, the criterion was developed through the efforts of security experts in the following countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States. Third Brigade chose to have Third Brigade Deep Security evaluated against the known and validated protection profile for intrusion detection systems created by the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States.
"It is not enough to only protect Windows-based systems," said Wael Mohamed, President and Chief Executive Officer, Third Brigade. "Government and enterprise customers have diverse computing platforms, including virtualized platforms and they welcome and respect the high level of due diligence we have performed on their behalf, as demonstrated by our Common Criteria certification."
"Common Criteria Certification is a typical selection criteria for any HIPS vendor wishing to sell to governments around the world”, said Neil MacDonald, VP and Gartner Fellow at Gartner, Inc. "In addition, broad support for enterprise server platforms, coverage of applications including older versions, and the ability to work in virtual environments are all key requirements for governments and enterprises worldwide."
Third Brigade’s Common Criteria evaluation was conducted by DOMUS IT Security Laboratory. The comprehensive and extensive nature of the due-diligence criterion selected by Third Brigade took 15 months to achieve certification and required a high level of commitment and professionalism to be applied by all participants.
"We admire the dedication and proficiency Third Brigade has displayed throughout their Common Criteria evaluation," said Chris Brych, Director, DOMUS IT Security Laboratory. "Adhering to the NSA protection profile for intrusion detection systems assures a high level of quality for customers of Third Brigade Deep Security."
Third Brigade Deep Security is an advanced, host-based intrusion defense system that brings proven network security approaches — including firewall, intrusion detection and prevention, and application firewall capabilities — down to individual computers, virtual machines and devices. It has been architected for enterprises that recognize the need to further enhance their security posture to protect mission critical IT assets from known and zero-day attacks. Third Brigade Deep Security provides targeted, host-based protection for the widest range of platforms used to run mission critical applications and store sensitive data.
Third Brigade Deep Security is integral to a defense-in-depth strategy, and provides measurable business value to multiple stakeholders enabling:
* Security - It helps ensure the security and 24/7 availability of mission-critical systems by preventing attacks that can lead to costly and embarrassing business disruptions.
* IT Operational Efficiency - It shields vulnerabilities in critical and hard to patch systems, allowing patches to be deployed on a more efficient, scheduled basis, with minimal impact on host or IT resources.
* Audit Compliance - It helps ensure compliance with regulations and corporate policies by protecting the systems that hold sensitive data.
* And it reduces the time spent preparing for audits, and the penalties and costs associated with non-compliance.
